This kit is the Italeri French Artillery Set.
I painted this when my wife was visiting her mother
Currently I'm working on a different model so I will not get into too much details on the subject. But when I finish I will try to do a demonstration so we can all share some knowledge on this fun project.
Some important points about painting 1/72 soft plastic.
Painting soft plastic you must prepare the plastic before you paint or your paint will crack later. Dilute some white glue mix with water 50/50 and spray it as base coat. This will bond the paint to soft plastic better.
Strong contrast help to bring out the small details in the figure better. Bringht color helps too (but do research on your subject first.)
Because the figure is so small, you can use hard edge (I use black) to seperate the colors so it looks for distictive. This is not realistic but more of a dramatic approach. If you look far away, you can still see the details. But this method does not work on 1/48 or 1/35 (it will not look realistic).
The static grass is mix of 2 kinds of color so it's not too uniformed.
Here are 2 more Lituanian Tartars I converted from the Russian Cossacks.
