Ford sues Ferrari over F-150 name

Detroit— Ford Motor Co. sued luxury automaker Ferrari in federal court today, accusing the exotic sports car company of cybersquatting and trademark infringement for allegedly misappropriating the famous F-150 name.

The lawsuit stems from Ferrari naming its new Formula 1 racing car the "F150," and creating a Web site www.ferrarif150.com, according to paperwork filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

Ford has suffered irreparable harm to its F-150 trademark, the lawsuit says, and the Dearborn automaker's legal team wants a judge to block Ferrari from using the trademark in the U.S. That includes importing, manufacturing or selling any producing that uses the F-150 name.

Ford also wants unspecified damages and for Ferrari to give up any revenue and profits earned in the U.S. through the use of the F-150 name, according to the lawsuit filed by Southfield lawyer Marc Lorelli. And Ford wants $100,000 in damages pursuant to the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, which protects against Internet domain names that confuse the public over the true source of products and services.

Ford has used the F-150 name on its flagship, full-size pickup trucks since the 1975 model year.

"This is an important trademark for us and we've spent many years and lots of advertising resources on establishing this name and getting the trademark," Ford spokeswoman Anne Marie Gattari said. "It's one we take very very seriously. It's one of our flagship vehicles."

The automaker obtained a trademark registration for F-150 in 1995, according to the lawsuit. Since 1997, gross revenues for the F-150 have topped $180 billion.

The lawsuit comes days after Ferrari announced it was naming the new Formula 1 race car the "F150," which is a nod to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, according to the automaker's website.

"When Ferrari announced the name of its race car as 'F150,' Ford asked Ferrari to change the name," Gattari said. "Ferrari did not respond in a timely manner, leaving Ford no choice but to take legal action to protect its important brand and trademark rights."

Ferrari has officially renamed its new Formula 1 car the 'F150th Italia'
as an act of good faith to avoid confusion with Ford, in the wake of the American car company going to court over what it claims is a trademark infringement.

Although Ferrari has decided to rebrand its car, the F1 team says it does not understand why Ford believes there is any confusion.

"On the subject of the name of the new Ferrari Formula 1 car, we has sent a letter of reply to Ford, underlining the fact that the F150 designation (used as the abbreviated version of the complete name, which is Ferrari F150th Italia) never has, nor ever will be used as the name of a commercially available product - indeed there will definitely not be a production run of single-seaters."

This year, the decision was taken to dedicate the car name to the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, an event of such great importance that the Italian government has declared, for this year only, a national holiday.

For these reasons, Ferrari believes that its own contender in the forthcoming F1 championship cannot be confused with other types of commercially available vehicle of any sort whatsoever, nor can it give the impression that there is a link to another brand of road-going vehicle. Therefore it is very difficult to understand Ford's viewpoint on the matter."

Ferrari has indicated that from now on, the car will become officially known as the F150th Italia.

其實第一日在 Jerez 已經隱約睇落紅牛架 RB7 好似換左冇鯊魚鰭?? 即查吓新賽例.........

新例係噉寫的:
“3.9.1 No bodywork situated between 50mm and 330mm forward of the rear wheel centre line may be more than 730mm above the reference plane.”

哦! 原來如此, 所以就算有鯊魚鰭都比上季短左一截, 會否令其作用下降? 紅牛已有兩手準備, 其他隊呢?

順便再睇真d新車s吧.....
我幾鐘意架 W02 的新外形及拉花, Petronas 的藍綠色改為銀底綠, 襯翻隻新銀色順眼好多. 而隻新銀色冇舊年果隻咁偏白, 閃翻些少, 我鐘意!
架細牛 STR6 的 double floor 幾靚吖!

講翻到現時為止總共試了六日車了, 雖然老生常談 ---- 咁早階段的試車時間指標性極低, 又唔知油重又唔知用左乜胎etc. 但隨著 F1 記者越來越專業及近年有互聯網, 連季前冬季試車都有實時報導, 兼有專人mark低所有細節作初步分析.....得出以下 "印象" :

紅牛好快已經好快

這兩隊最標青, 唔駛問呀貴已成頂頭大熱門, 其中紅牛以速度黎計秤先少少

平治..... 好似冇乜突破 (即係壞消息)
老麥..... 唔搶眼囉

舊年今日, 架架季前試車版本都冇鯊魚鰭, 一到巴林咪成一半車隊以上用左鯊魚鮨囉!

話說模型, 我估, 對於樹脂材料的特性而言, 最攞命係要造出咁**平直**的零件, 仲要咁大塊添! 更高難度. 結果當然選擇用PE吧. 大塊PE 接合樹脂.....唔用得焊接法 慢慢嘆喇!
其實我唔覺得有鯊魚鰭的 F-1 車靚, 相反我鐘意冇鯊魚鰭的外形多些. 只是鯊魚鰭夠特別搶眼, 日後能成為某段 F-1 時代的象徵, 就如70年代中期的大煙囪e.g. 312T, BT44B....  

講翻新例下的鯊魚鰭, 為了道絕 F-duct 而cut短長度, 對其功能削弱了多少是設計師的考慮重點.

再者, 鯊魚鰭功能較易被工程/設計師掌握. 相反, 今季為了彌補禁止了double deck diffuser之後的下壓力損失, 而採用的新設計零件則好難估算.
圍繞車尾下壓力的新設計概念紛呈, 為了盡量辨識新設計的真正效果, 首先當然是張變數減得就減. 鯊魚鰭, 我估是其中可減的變數吧??
會否一如舊年, 一到3月首站時, d鯊魚鰭又再紛紛 "浮上水面" 呢?!

再看看相片, 鰭.....幾乎已成例牌, 只差在面積大細姐.
