都係時候講講 蓮花 Lotus 的命名權風波嘞

好多車友都問 : 究竟此蓮花與彼蓮花點樣分? 即係邊個先係正印呢?
一疋布都唔夠長呀! 好彩有人以 diagram 來作解構  慳口水之餘, 大家更易明白!!!
不過幅圖如果 post 在此會太細睇唔到. 勞煩大家 click 入去啦.

這個帖話明是 2011年新 F1 賽季, 季前試車我只打算 post 2011年新車相, 有份參與試車的2010舊車變得冇乜意思. 所以本來唔想 post 威廉士車隊的 FW33 住, 因為它講明今次試車只是拿架 interim car, 兼未有新車花 (只噴上全深藍的所謂車隊傳統色). 不過佢肯公開自己架車的新轉變播. 就即本睇睇 :-

Williams has revealed that creating the smallest gearbox in its Formula 1 history was one of the key factors that helped it create such a unique rear end to its new FW33.

Williams has produced a very aggressive design at the back of its car - with the sidepods and engine cover narrowed down to the minimum to help airflow at the back of the car.

Williams technical director Sam Michael said,

"The main changes revolve around the gearbox casing and location of the differential.

The target is to have as much clear air flow to the rear wing assembly as possible by clearing all the area to the rear lower wing because it is a performance differentiator now.

You've got to have the underside of the rear lower wing completely free, so we took the decision to lift the top wishbone and the track rod and go to a Z-bone layout – which was commonly used in the early 90's – to get that all above the underside.

It means that all the weight is in line with the trailing edge of the legality box, so you are nowhere near the underside of the rear lower wing, and it's completely free airflow.

The push to get the airflow tidied up at the rear of the car meant that a pull-rod suspension configuration was a must. As it means there's less blockage to the rear

It doesn't matter what you do with a pushrod, even if it is swept forwards or backwards, you've got a load going into the rear lower wing, whereas a pull rod is completely out of the rear lower wing. That was an easy decision.

擺明同法拉利打對台喎

The other thing was to clear the centre of it by lowering the gearbox. We dropped the top section as much as we could and it is the smallest box we've ever made with the most extreme driveshaft design --- quite a big driveshaft angle. 

大家可留意圖片中的金啡色的驅動軸 (driveshaft) 的確幾大角度. 其缺點是令萬向節 (和尚頭) 承受好大壓力.....要注意 reliability 喎!

再爆 Williams 的.....
昨天首日試車架 FW33 的 KERS 出了毛病. 當時我已好好奇, 它用乜 KERS 系統呢?

今日受訪時確認了它是用 battery pack 即是主流設計的 KERS, 還記得威廉士在2009年吹到恆話研發用 fly wheel 的 KERS 嗎??? 結果2009成年都冇到 KERS, 兩年後.....提都唔提....我就叫它做八萬五飛輪KERS罷

昨日平治的相角度嘛嘛, 今日試車時影的靚d!

還有五隊(包括威廉士)車隊的新車花未亮相 : Mclaren, HRT, Virgin, Force India + Williams, 已有人話暫時為止最靚 (車花) 是雷諾第一, 平治第二靚.
我都覺得平治靚左. 原來那銀色和舊年的不同 (官方已確認) 贊助商的綠色條紋安排亦執過.

Williams's fly wheel KERS system actually is being use else where! The Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid has the fly wheel system, so does the new 918 RSR concept car

And Williams now have a seprate branch call Williams Hybrid which I think is trying to sell that KERS technology(correct me if I m wrong people)

原來仍是有用武之地的.

點解唔用落架 FW33 道?.....可能是資源運用考慮, 不同個別賽例的發揮空間....等等吧.
始終 F-1 是新賽車科技發表的最有效舞台. 好想看看不同的演繹方法. 可惜, 希望是暫時性看不到 fly wheel KERS 吧.
我現在已好想2013年(?)新引擎規格能夠落實 : 1600cc Turbo!!!

I think the reason of not using it on the FW33 was the way that KERS need to be package around the cars. And Williams said the FW33 has the smallest ever gearbox built by them, and as a result of that the back of the FW33 have more space for the air to flow through.

I think the rule changes for 2013 has been confirm, Ferrari and Mercedes however are still against it  We will see what happen there.

Rumors are that Volkswagen are considering F1 as an engine supplier with the new 1.6 Turbo engines...

Finally the car that I personally have been looking forward to see!

McLaren MP4-26

It has some very very interesting side pods and the rear end looks a bit like the FW33. It uses a more traditional exhaust layout.

The new McLaren features some interesting concepts including :-
1. a long flat high nose
2. radical, high L-shaped sidepods (= U shape sidepods)
3. airbox tweaks.

關於其所謂 U-shape sidepods 有以下介紹 :-

The thinking behind U shape sidepods is to feed as much good-quality air as possible to the rear-lower main plane and the floor of the car. In order to get the rear-end working as well as possible following the loss of performance caused by the banning of the double-diffuser.

我覺得 FW33 與 MP4/26 的車尾分別頗大, 我指的是波箱/尾牙的高度 (離地距), 威廉士比老麥底好多 (以F-1的標準而言) 請比較兩者的圖片.

Haha when I wrote there were only 4 photos of the MP4-26 (all from the front of the car), I didnt get a good look of the rear.

What I meant was that the way the body work is packaged around the back looks a little bit like the FW33.

Kubica in induced coma overnight
7 February 2011


Doctors have confirmed that hospitalised Robert Kubica is in an induced coma on Sunday night following his heavy accident during the opening stage of an Italian club rally. The Pole is now in a serious but stable condition following a seven-hour operation, conducted by as many doctors, to rebuild the functions of his right forearm.

The latest statement to be released by Lotus Renault GP, at 00:29 Italian time on Monday (GMT +1), reads as follows:


‘Robert Kubica underwent a seven-hour operation at the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure this afternoon. The Lotus Renault GP driver had been diagnosed with multiple fractures to his right arm and leg following a high-speed accident at the Ronda de Andora rally this morning. He also suffered severe cuts to his forearm, which could have an impact on his right hand mobility.

Doctors are reasonably satisfied with the way the operation went. Tonight, Robert's condition remains stable but serious. He has been placed into an induced coma and could be woken up in the morning.

Professor Mario Igor Rossello, Director for the Regional Centre of Hand Surgery at San Paolo Hospital in Savona: “It has been a very important and difficult operation. Robert Kubica's right forearm was cut in two places, with significant lesions to the bones and the tendons. We did our best to rebuild the functions of the forearm. It took seven doctors, split into two teams and a total of seven hours to complete the operation. One team was the emergency task force from the hospital of San Paolo (Savona) that is normally appointed to treat this sort of injury, while the other team came from the orthopaedic department of the Santa Corona Hospital (Pietra Ligure). At the end of the operation, Robert's hand was well vascularised and warm, which is encouraging. Following the surgery, Robert Kubica will remain under permanent monitoring overnight because his condition remains serious.”


Eric Boullier, Team Principal and Managing Director of Lotus Renault GP: “The news of Robert's accident came as a real shock to the whole team. All of us, at Lotus Renault GP, wish him a quick recovery. We have been really impressed with the way the doctors looked after him today and we would like to thank the whole team of the Santa Corona Hospital for their professional approach and dedication. I will be traveling to Italy tomorrow, along with Vitaly Petrov, in order to see Robert and tell him that we are impatiently waiting for his return.”

Another update will be made tomorrow morning at 9h30, at the hospital, by Prof. Rossello and Daniel Morelli, Robert's manager.’
